Mr. Ebenezer Awukune Achana, the Director of Audit at the Zebilla District in the Upper East Region has been adjudged the Best District Auditor for the year 2021,  at the maiden edition of the District Auditors’ Conference.

For his prize, Mr. Achana was presented with a deep freezer. The award, the first of it kind, according to Top Management would be sustained to reward hard work and commitment to duty.

Out of 12 entries received by Management from EIDA Northern and Northern Zones, Mr. Achana’s works stood out to meet the criteria for the award.

The criteria for the award were; the works submitted, timelines of submission of reports and events, relevant observations captured in the various Auditor-General’s (A-G) reports to Parliament and coverage of audit universe.

During the period under review, Mr. Achana who was then an Assistant Director, timeously submitted the under listed returns to the Regional Auditor and this contributed to the Regional Auditor’s timely submission of returns to the Head Office. These returns were; annual and quarterly work plans, quarterly expenditure returns, performance reports, quarterly fuel and maintenance returns and proposed annual budget.

Mr. Achana was able to audit his entire universe (2 MMDAs, 31 MDAs and Pre-Technical Universities), submitted all management letters, district draft notes for A-G’s report to Parliament and validated financial statements of the schools and assemblies to the Regional office. His observations issued by the district has neither been contested nor challenged. He subjected his observations to severe scrutiny but all were found to be tangible and evidence based.

He contributed 16 observations which were significant in the A-G’s reports as well as provided sufficient monitoring, direction and supervision to staff which has reflected in the performance of his district.

In relation to Administrative duties, Mr. Achana acquired a cabinet to arrange files which were kept on the bear floor.

The atmosphere in the Conference Hall of the Golden Tulip Hotel, where the event was held, was electrified when Mr Achana was named the man fit to bear the enviable accolade as the best district auditor for the year 2021.

And when he stepped forward to be handed his award, there was a loud applause by the participants of the event.

Filled with joy and beaming, Mr. Achana  in his remarks of appreciation extended his profound gratitude to the Board and Management for the recognition. He entreated colleague auditors to work harder.

Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, Auditor-General in his remarks said this was the golden era of hardwork and Management would be on the lookout for staff who are committed to their work.
