Mohammed Zakaria Ali

Mr. Mohammed Zakaria Ali is the Deputy Auditor-General (DAG) in charge of the Central Government Audits Department of Audit Service. He was previously in charge of the Finance, Administration and Human Resources Department.

Prior to his promotion to a DAG, Mr. Ali served as the Assistant Auditor-General (AAG) for Finance, ensuring that accounting records were maintained and properly managed amongst other responsibilities.

He joined the Service on 9th June 1992 as a Senior Auditor and worked in various branches including CGAD/Pension and Treasury. He was also amongst the pioneers in setting up the Performance and Special Audits Department.

Mr. Zakaria Ali served as the District Auditor for Bawku in the Upper East Region for four years, and his District was adjudged the best performing Office in the Upper East Region in 2010. During his term, the district produced significant number of observations and recommendations to the regional office which were included in the Auditor-General’s report to Parliament.

He has performed numerous special audit assignments internationally. These include:

  • Audit of the World Maritime University in Sweden in 2020
  • Audit of the International Organisation for Migration, Switzerland (2020), Germany and Bosnia – 2019
  • Audit of Ghana High Commission, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 2016
  • Audit of Ghana High Commission, Malaysia, 2015
  • Audit of Ghana High Commission, Zimbabwe, 2012

He has attended several international conferences and seminars. Among them are Systems Based Audit, Advance Financial Refresher Workshop for District Assemblies, Resource Management Systems, the Intensive Performance Audit Training Course and International Maritime Organisation Conference in London, UK. Locally, Mr. Zakaria Ali has been part of the auditing team that conducts special audit exercises.

Mr. Zakaria Ali is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana). He holds a BA in Economics and MSc in Accounting and Finance from the University of Ghana Business School.

Mr. Ali enjoys soccer, reading and traveling.
