The Auditor-General (A-G), Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo had advised newly qualified accountants to uphold truth as the cornerstone of their profession and refrain from dishonourable activities capable of blighting their integrity, and the trust of their stakeholders.

He therefore urged the inductees to build a name for themselves positing, “let people hear your name and contest on your behalf and say No, I don’t think he will do that”.

Mr. Domelevo gave the advice at the induction ceremony organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) for 240 newly qualified members in Accra. The Induction Ceremony was to initiate the new members into the accountancy profession.

The A-G said the fight against corruption comes with obstacles that could “shoot a fighter down. Nonetheless, as professionals, you should remain steadfast in the fight against corruption for the development of the nation.”

Mr. Domelevo called for the use of accrual accounting in the public sector because it brings about a higher level of accountability and transparency for any entity than the cash accounting. He said that there are efforts between the Audit Service, ICAG, and the Controller and Accountant’s General Department in this direction.

The President of ICAG, Professor Kwame Adom-Frimpong, urged the new members to eschew greed, live above reproach and respect all rules and regulations of the accountancy profession in the discharge of their duties. He charged the inductees to adhere to the guidelines and principles on integrity, objectivity, due care, professional behaviour and competence.
