The Ghana Audit Service (GAS) recently engaged with the Global Fund Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Mission in Ghana, marking a positive milestone in strengthening accountability and transparency in the management of Global Fund resources. This collaboration reflects a growing trend of GAS staff gaining valuable opportunities to conduct audits alongside the OIG, thereby enhancing local capacity and reinforcing confidence in Ghana’s oversight systems.
Key stakeholders, including the Global Fund Board and Secretariat, technical and donor partners, the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), and national stakeholders, require assurance that funds are safeguarded, grant requirements are met, health products are available, and results are achieved. GAS’s active involvement in the OIG Mission directly supports this assurance framework.
GAS Team Lead, Mr. Patrick Neequaye, stated that the joint engagement demonstrates GAS’s commitment to international best practices in public financial management and audit, while providing an opportunity to learn from OIG methodologies, toolkits, and frameworks to strengthen health sector audits in the area of financial controls, programmatic interventions, and procurement and pharmaceutical supply chain management. Mrs. Roberta Assiamah‑Appiah, Deputy Auditor‑General and Supervisor for Global Fund Audits, expressed appreciation for GAS’s role and noted that by working closely with the OIG.
GAS is not only enhancing its technical expertise but also contributing to the broader goal of safeguarding health investments and ensuring that Ghana achieves measurable results in the fight against malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis.
