Auditor-General calls on ECOSAI to champion transparency and economic transformation

The Auditor-General of Ghana, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has urged Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) within the ECOWAS subregion to champion transparency, accountability, and economic transformation in public financial management.

He made the call during the third meeting of the ECOWAS Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ECOSAI) held in Accra from October 8–10, 2025, which brought together representatives from Benin, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo

Mr. Asiedu encouraged SAIs to adopt digital audit systems to improve efficiency and promote public participation in accountability efforts. He stressed that public audits should lead to tangible development outcomes that deliver maximum value to citizens.

The Chairperson of Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, reaffirmed Parliament’s collaboration with audit institutions to strengthen fiscal oversight and transparency. She called for continued regional cooperation as ECOWAS marks its 50th anniversary.

Representing the ECOWAS Audit Committee, Dr. Joao A. Mamadu Fadia commended ECOSAI’s progress since its establishment in 2019 and reiterated ECOWAS’s commitment to supporting its mission of promoting good governance and accountability across the subregion.
