World Bank and Ghana Audit Service Deepen Collaboration on Financial Management Quality Assurance

The Ghana Audit Service (GAS) hosted a strategic engagement with the World Bank’s Financial Management Team as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public financial accountability and enhance audit quality across World Bank–funded projects.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both institutions to discuss key issues related to audit consistency, reporting standards, and capacity development. The World Bank delegation, led by Mr. Andrei Busuioc, emphasized the importance of harmonizing audit practices and sustaining high-quality financial reporting, particularly in the auditing of World Bank–funded projects.

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Roberta Assiamah-Appiah, Deputy Auditor-General for the Educational Institutions and District Assemblies Department (EIDA)-Southern Zone, expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued technical support and collaboration. She highlighted the critical role of GAS in ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.

Discussions focused on the audit engagement process, assessment of current audit practices and reporting standards, identification of gaps and opportunities for improvement, and alignment with GAS methodologies, international standards, and World Bank expectations. The engagement also aimed to explore capacity-building needs, promote consistency in audit documentation, opinions, timely and transparent reporting, and develop a roadmap for sustained technical support and knowledge exchange.

Mr. George Swanzy Winful, Deputy Auditor-General for EIDA -Northern Zone, reaffirmed GAS’s commitment to working closely with the World Bank to close gaps and uphold international auditing standards. He noted that the engagement reflects a shared vision for promoting sound public financial management and institutional resilience.

The World Bank team commended GAS for its dedication and professionalism, while encouraging further collaboration to ensure clarity, comparability, and reliability in audit outcomes. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to explore joint training programs and knowledge-sharing platforms to support continuous improvement.
